1:100 Marketing Model for Fabbrica in Fitzroy Melbourne with PACE and SJB

Located in the vibrant suburb of Fitzroy, Melbourne, this sophisticated design by SJB Architects demanded tailored model-making solutions to effectively showcase its diverse facade expressions.

Built at a scale of 1:100, Make Models utilized CNC milling to craft flat sheet panels to match the scale and appearance of the final building. These panels were then buffed, laser-cut, and painted, with meticulous attention paid to assembling intricate window details such as balustrades, fins, and hoods. Extensive exploration of color samples was undertaken to achieve a harmonious balance of tonal variations across the design, highlighting each complementary material.

Celeste, reflecting on the collaborative process with the Pace team, remarked, “Working with a team that values and trusts your creativity allows for exceptional outcomes. It enables our studio to experiment with customized materials and techniques, elevating model-making craftsmanship beyond standard solutions. Through iterative discussions, we honed in on textures and tones that pushed the boundaries of our tools and technology, seamlessly transitioning between CNC milling and laser cutting. No compromises were made in the creation of this model.”

The external central staircase serves as a striking focal point, crafted from bright red laser-cut acrylic and featuring intricate 3D printed details. This sculptural element delicately bridges the two residential masses, adding a touch of finesse amidst the robust materials.

Fabbrica offers a communal rooftop space, complete with shared work areas, a kitchen, lounge, and private dining room designed by Winwood McKenzie.

Internal warm lighting and a natural approach to foliage and landscaping add an additional layer of texture to this unique model.
